1880's Walnut Eastlake Style Lift Top Commode w/ Original Wash Basin Insert
Rare and fun! This beautiful Eastlake style walnut lift top commode is in room-ready condition. It has all original brass hinges and hardware. The solid walnut top lifts to reveal a small porcelain sink insert on the left side that drains down a rubber hose to what was probably a bucket or basin for removal of waste water. The porcelain sink has faint blue patterned streaks of color. The right side features a square plasticine-fiber type board with routered edges which is probably a modern replacement for a previous marble piece. There is one hand dovetailed drawer on the right side, and two lower doors. There are some spoon carved highlights and reeded columns on the front of the commode. Dimensions of this versatile piece are: 37 3/8" long, 19 3/4" deep, and 30 " tall. When we found this commode, we thought it would make a very fine and unique liquor cabinet, or be used in your bathroom. What would your idea be?
