Denver & Salt Lake Railroad 1913 Adlake Reliable UM Amber Globe Lantern
Items from the Denver & Salt Lake Railroad are getting harder and harder to find these days. This is a very nice bell bottom Colorado railroad lantern that is embossed on the top lid "The Adams & Westlake Co., Adlake Reliable, New York, Chicago, Phila.", and embossed on the lower portion of the lid "D&S.L.R.R", with the last patent date being April 1, 1913. This lantern is very straight with lots of original tin, and has only been cleaned of oil and dirt. The frame stands 10 1/2" tall without the bail. It comes with an old unmarked 5 3/8" tall amber Corning globe that is in excellent condition. The original 1909 Adlake fount and burner are in excellent condition, and will still hold oil and burn.
D&SLRR HISTORY:
David H. Moffat and his business associates established the Denver, Northwestern and Pacific Railway. It originated in Denver, and was planned to terminate in Salt Lake City, Utah. Construction began on December 18, 1902. DNW&P was placed in receivership on May 2, 1912, and on April 30, 1913 was reformed as the Denver and Salt Lake Railroad, though it went bankrupt before reaching Salt Lake City. By 1913 the tracks through Steamboat Springs had reached Craig in Moffat County, Colorado, towards the Colorado-Utah border. At its final terminus, it was less than half the distance toward its goal of Salt Lake City, Utah. The Denver and Salt Lake Railroad was reorganized as the Denver and Salt Lake Railway in 1926.
